Hi everyone!
Dr. Wahls, thank you for your work and for this platform to learn more. I am thankfully prodromal (a new word to me as of yesterday, thank you) and grateful for it. I don't actually want a diagnosis. But after a lifetime of weird symptoms, and decades of fatigue, aches, fevers, rashes, irrational behavior, brain fog, depression, anxiety overwhelm, and more, I'm resonating with the autoimmune solutions in your books and materials.
I have had some success with a ketogenic way of eating and varying levels of intermittent fasting (from a 16:8 window all the way to 48 hour fasts). I felt my best at zero carb, one meal a day, which I did for 4 months.
My question though, because I think I want a more balanced and nutrient dense way of eating, is to try to learn more about food allergies and testing.
My mindset is not to find out how not to be sick any longer. My aim is about finding out how healthy I can be... a subtle but significant difference.
I'd like to know, aside from an elimination diet which can take weeks and months and introduces too many variables, are there lab test I can get to help me understand if eggs, dairy, and other foods are causing problems that I don't recognize? And where can I go for this testing (and do I need my doctor to refer me -- which means I need her to agree for the need of the testing).
After a recent very serious eczema outbreak I was given some pretty heavy doses of steroids (which I've been trying to avoid) and physical experiences I didn't know where symptoms had temporarily cleared... so I find I don't even know what's possible for health.
So I am searching for ways to measure and get feedback on my health -- starting with the foods I choose to maximally support my mind and body.
Grateful to be here and I'm looking forward to learning much.
